VIDEO
My recent video work has been largely in the gaming/social media realm. Selections demonstrate a range of skills and techniques used in social media editing. May contain explicit language.
  • YouTube End Card - Promotional slide at the end of YouTube videos. Shield illustration was done by another artist, I worked chiefly on the text and its transitions.
  • YouTube Let's Play -  A video series made for EgoViking's YouTube channel. I worked on the motion of the intro graphic and the sound layering. I also completed the non-linear editing for the video which was originally 4 hours long.
  • Highlight Clip for social media - Brief clip pulled from moments during EgoViking's live stream. Mostly sound layering, non-linear editing, and quick jump cuts for comedic effect geared toward EgoViking's audience.
  • Fallout 76 Tutorial - This clip houses various skills. Nonlinear editing, text motion graphics, it is recorded using the OBS Streaming software, and a YouTube End Card at the end of the video.
  • Knee Deep Cinematic - A mostly complete project, this a cinematic that myself and several friends worked on. It harkens back to the early days of Machinima, the practice of using video games to create scripted shows. While the project was never 100% complete and this is a rough cut, it was fun to work on. I completed the the writing, directing, and filming.
  • Good, bad, and ugly - This was a concept highlight reel I worked on. I worked on the motion for the opening graphic (I did not do the 3D modeling), non-linear editing, transitions, text effects, and music syncing.
  • Call of Duty and Valorant Twitter Highlights - These are a couple short Twitter highlights pulled from a stream and edited quickly (under one hour) for social media promotion.

SOCIAL NETWORKING
During the 2020-21 Academic year I managed the Instagram account for the Communication Department at the University of the Pacific. As such, I created a immersive learning experience that simulates acting as a social media manager, based on my experience as a media planner at AT&T. The team also worked on a monthly newsletter, Facebook, and Twitter. Based on the needs of the department and most popular social media app for our students, we opted to focus mostly on Instagram and the internal newsletter.  Nearly all of the production labor was done by students under my supervision and advising. The current major campaign during the Spring '21 semester is #VAXPAC. The social media team is locating members of the UoP community who have received the COVID-19 vaccination and are creating focused on their experience over the past year. The effort is meant to garner awareness and encourage the UoP community to get vaccinated when available to ensure a safe return to campus in the Fall.

During the Fall 2020 semester, I coordinated a lecture series called EXPERIENCE: Digital Communication at the University of the Pacific. The purpose of the series was to elevate and explicate various communication fields that may not be immediately evident, as well as illuminating how a degree in communication can be applied outside of the academy. The series consisted of influencers, tech executives, and broadcasting personalities, such as Erin Wayne (Twitch Community Executive), MikeTheBard (Influencer), and Meg Kaylee (GameStopTV).

PODCASTS
Podcasting was where I first began learning production practices. I've largely moved on to video oriented production; however, I've been brainstorming ideas for a new multimodal series. These examples are podcasts that operate adjacent to a video game I worked on for the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. The game was focused on paleontology during a period of time known as The Bone Wars, when loads of dinosaur fossils were being uncovered. The game was kept simple and only housed some storytelling elements. The podcast acted as a transmedia storytelling element meant to expand the story and provide insight and education to the period of time. Script and audio production/editing were completed by me. Voice overs were done by colleagues.

SCRIPTWRITING
I have worked on scripts for a web series, short films, and comic books.  The directory contains scripts and any notes I have from prewriting to drafting to final scripts. All of the scripts are done on spec and I've yet to pursue any production beyond what is written; however, they demonstrate an understanding of form, conventions, and storytelling.

GAME DESIGN
Games are, probably, my favorite past time and I have spent a great deal of time working on various games - digital, analog, and hybrid.
  • The Bone Wars - The game that spawned the above Podcasts. Made for the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. This was done over the course of a semester on an interdisciplinary team, which I worked as the communication strategist, as well as assisting in various game design/mechanics elements.
  • Secret Schematics - An alternate-reality game designed the Academy of Model Aeronautics in Muncie, IN. Through various web elements, Secret Schematics laid out a mystery for patrons of the AMA Museum to solve while they worked through various exhibits. The game itself was live for roughly a month before a changing of exhibits occurred; however, the game and all of its elements have been preserved and are available to check out via download.
  • Double Up - A dice and card game designed by myself and Matt Dickens. This was, effectively, a dice and card version of the popular basketball game HORSE. We spent roughly a year working on the game before taking it to various conventions around the country to show off and play with other designers and publishers.
  • Luck of the Draw - Another card and dice game which harnessed the popularity of fast paced, real time decision making in card games. The concept was based on the romanticized shootouts told in Western films. Video of the gameplay can be found here.
  • Five Minute Fable - This was a quick game designed in under an hour. Effectively, players are tasked with telling a story based on random elements. It turned out to be popular amongst our small group of friends, thus I made the rule sheet available on popular board game websites as it requires no components aside from the rules and writing utensils to play.
